There is a weird melancholic feeling when it comes to collecting ephemera. Especially when it comes to the gradual disappearance of it. It has become more common where ephemera or vintage single use items get tossed away due to the fact that people don't value it as much anymore. It's not a painting you can put in a museum or a monument, these items are things that weren't made to last generations. When these items were designed they didn't keep it in mind to design something that withholds the ruthless happenings of time. Matchbooks, ticket stubs, checks, handwritten letters, photographs, receipts, everyday items that weren't ever supposed to be historical items. That's what makes preserving ephemera so important, it gives insight to the everyday lives of people that we have never met, people separated by time and decades centuries even.
